Take it as a grain of salt but IMo there's a potentially terminal illness in play either him or someone close. Either its in the process of testing for an illness or something has come up and it's the beginning stages of him or a close relation is at the beginning stages/ treatment and they are not ready to fully come out about it.
Just my 2cents from experience with that sort of thing. There's a part of that sort of process with it being you or a close person to you essentially just being in a almost purgatory state for a while.

I think Tre’s request to the media to respect privacy and not ask further questions should extend to fans as well. Sure there may be hints and if you sleuth through you might be able to make educated guesses, but I would rather not even entertain this. Especially would not post on a public forum trying to pin down the reason for his absence when the team explicitly asked for privacy.
