It's a horrible feeling to be talking about lost human lives in such large numbers. But this one could go a lot higher, given that many of the victims were swept out to sea; it'll probably be weeks before we have any sort of accurate death count. Indonesia, for example, has reported 4500 deaths, but government officials suspect that they could have as many as 20,000 dead in Aceh alone. I had initially heard that there were about a dozen people killed in Somalia. They're now saying that hundreds have been killed there, most of them fisherman.
Apparently there are still minor aftershocks today, so this might not be done yet. Frightening stuff.
