I think this award needs to be this high for 3 reasons.
1 - The people who follow/support Jones will continue to do so, he still has incredible earning potential.
2 - in the likely event that the award is reduced on appeal, the higher the original amount, the greater the chance that the penalty remains high.
3 - it may serve to send a message to all the present and future wanna-be Joneses that the courts take these types of cases seriously. It's sets a great precedent.
