You’re talking some of the greatest defensive fielders of all time. Not unusual for most guys to play deep IMO. You just can’t sell out in that situation, need to minimize the damage. The whole point was to avoid extra bases.

But you have to recognize the batter too. And you’re right maybe in this case the odds of a hard hit ball are lower.
