Sometimes both. Hockey scholars will spend generations studying the strange history of the Atlanta-Saskatoon-San Antonio Screaming Eagles, and wonder how they ever got that way. Or why the New York Rangers relocated to Atlanta, Sault Ste. Marie, and then back to New York again, all within the span of a single season.
