Sometimes, though, that commitment can involve practising skills that are easier to work on with different equipment.
Joe Nieuwendyk, back in the day, had an incredible knack for standing beside the net and tipping in pucks out of mid-air. He attributed this to the time he spent playing summer lacrosse. I see no reason why things like that shouldn't be part of an NHLer's off-season training nowadays.
