Yup, I regularly remember warm Septembers, as much as I remember cold Septembers. You get both, so people tend to only remember the crappy weather when they are currently in a nice one.
I remember about 10 years ago (I think), my boss jokingly said if the temperature hits 30 degrees, he's giving everyone the afternoon off and he's treating the department to beers at a patio. It happened, and we went for beers at a golf course.
