Maybe that's why the team has asked him to move to the wing? They don't like something about his defensive awareness in the middle? I don't know what that could be because he was a plus player in his opportunities last year. Thing is they recognize what they have here. A big player with hands that needs to find his niche. The wing is probably a great place for him, considering the log jam at center. I suspect they are going to develop him in this role. Whether that is in the AHL or NHL is the question. Based on his contract status I think he may end up doing some time in the AHL unless they feel he is likely to get snagged in waivers (a good possibility IMO). I think he sticks because of his waiver status.
