I don't think folks are as doubtful of his size as they are about his play away from the puck.
Lots of small guys become effective checking forwards, but very few players can crack an NHL squad with offensive ability alone. Prospects who have a penalty killing pedigree get longer looks. Is Phillips a one dimensional player? no, but he is not known as a 200ft guy. Does he have a legit shot at making the NHL? maybe, but there is no doubt that he is an underdog at this point.
