There's a reason why the Flames have been hesitant to give Phillips a shot with the big club and it all boils down to size. That's held him back. Without Gaudreau, Sutter may be more comfortable to go with another small player, but that would seem to go against the team he and Treliving built last season. But with that huge hole on the right side, and Phillips being one of the few skilled right shooting RWs in camp, the opportunity is there for him to earn a spot. The alternative is a converted LW or a left shooting player on the right side. Opportunity is definitely there for the taking. Phillips now just has to perform and meet the expectations of the coach.
