Truthfully the way the NHL draft system is setup, it is somewhat unfair to the youngest players but that is not uncommon in union contracts. Newly drafted star players are supposed to give the team the benefit of over performance on contracts, without the freedom to leverage the market over the team. Fox and Erixon took opportunity to leverage the market without earning it, and never gave the Flames organization anything.

Where as like it or not, JG & MT put good years into the Flame organization, played hard, gave the fans something to cheer for while they were here, and not so much in case of MT, but in the case of JG earned to right to leverage the market against the Flames in whichever fashion he want to.

I probably won't boo JGs specifically if I'm there that night, because I just don't feel I need to be that fickle, I enjoyed the time he spent here and was a fan of his. To turn on him so completely for something he earned just isn't where I want to take this.

I'm more torn about MT, he never even gave the Flames a chance to take some UFA years, he never showed us 100% of his potential here, and the whole thing felt so cold and calculated, and lacking consideration for everything else that was happening with the team, he just never for 1 day considered being a Flame as part of his future. Where as JG kinda hit us a little harder, you got the feeling he ended up doing it because he was actually torn about wanting to keep a toe in Calgary. MTs only redeeming factor is how stupid his new boss is, and the absolute gold mine that was returned in exchange, as others have said even if he has resigned here and committed to the team you make that trade 100 out 100 times.

Erixon & Fox, I'll boo 'em forever, and don't feel fickle for it. I've never cheered for them, they never did anything for Calgary, they never gave the team a chance, and they took something that wasn't earned from the Flames organization.
