This show could’ve taken a lesson from This is Us - show us all these different time periods concurrently, throughout each episode. Jump back and forth. It took 20 minutes to figure out who everyone was, and then half of the new characters died in fires.
I find this story in general to be breathtakingly uninteresting.
Game of Thrones is overflowing with dynamic characters. Just in the first three episodes of season 1 alone, you have
Ned, Cat, Robert, Cersei, Arya, Jon, Robb, Theon, Sansa, Jamie, Tyrion, Varys, Littlefinger, Joffrey, the Hound, I could probably go on.
You could make an entire show about any one of these characters. Hell, I’d watch a miniseries about that short dude who taught Arya to fence.
This?
Matt Smith is great, but he’s great in everything. You don’t spend four years on the set of Doctor Who without knowing how to act around some awful writing.
They took five episodes to explain why Viserys doesn’t have an arm, why Rhaenera has an open relationship with her gay husband, and that the two most prominent blood-related Targaryens desperately want to bang.
