Dude, this is gross and embarrassing.
We don't have any insider knowledge about what happened, but we all do know that Guy had a heart attack a few years and understanding your parents are mortal is a big shift in life.
Blaming Meredith or saying that Johnny is "submissive" is frankly kind of creepy. He made the best choice for his family with his family, there's nothing more to it than that.
