I literally said three things:

If he was bigger and heavier, he'd be Datsyuk 2.0.
He's very, very good defensively for his size.
Because of his size he's forced to use his speed and stick instead of his body.

Things I literally did not say:

He's Datsyuk 2.0.
He's very, very good defensively. Period.
His size should be ignored when discussing his defensive capabilities, and should therefore be compared to players like Barkov and Bergeron (who do not suffer the drawback of being 4-6 inches shorter and 40-60 lbs lighter than they people they play against).

Edit: To clarify further... I think of Datsyuk and Gaudreau as being equal in terms of skill, creativity, vision and defensive stickwork. Datsyuk, while certainly not a giant, was at least big enough to not be the physical equivalent of a mosquito. I believe that Johnny has the same hockey brain as Datsyuk and would be a generational talent and the best player in the NHL right now, if he was a few inches taller and at least 20lbs heavier.
