Atrocities have been normalized to some extent in Iran since the beginning of the eradication of the Baha'i starting in 1979. As the 'other' was slowly removed, the government and extremists started moving on their own people, because it's all that they know to hold power.
I know that this thread is primarily North America based, and therefore Christian, but parts of the African continent and SW Asia are absolute nightmares, and a lot of it is normalized and just a matter of course.
