I actually have no problem with Ukrainian, or anyone for that matter, wanting to break away from Russia. I myself try to do the very same.

I think if the Kremlin called and asked you to accept a "sign of unbreakable friendship , brotherhood and trust between Russian and Ukrainian peoples" in any point from 1922 to 1982 you damn well accepted it no matter what your personal feelings were unless you wanted an up close and personal tour of some camp east of the Urals
