To me the signs seem pretty clear even his former teammates have come out and said they felt he was going to leave. In his article he even said he started thinking about playing closer to home in 2018. The GM of the Flames looked pissed and let it slip that one side negotiated in good faith. It seems pretty clear he had no intention of signing here and that's his right. Almost seems to be he made an offer to the team with the mindset we would walk at the asking price, and he would have a easy out instead we accepted and he panicked.
