I think just from an asset management perspective, you have to explore what Hanifin could get you on the market if you sold high on him. With Weegar in the mix, Hanifin might not be leaned on as much next season and could see his value diminish if he takes a step back in production. Hanifin has 2 years left on his contract and will likely be due for a big raise after that. His asset value may never be higher than it is now. If Weegar is signed long term, it might be difficult to keep Hanifin in 2 years just due to cap allotment.
You could argue trading any other defensemen, but I do think it makes sense to trade someone. Weegar and Andersson are the only other two that likely get you a similar return.
I am not saying that he needs to be traded or to trade him at all costs, but if the return is good and cost controlled, Treliving would be dumb to not try IMO. If there are no good deals out there though, by all means keep him.
