I believe he is on the record as saying that he wants to stay in Calgary and if it means doing this exercise every season than he will. Even at league minimum, he is still making more bank than most of us that sets him up for life if he is smart about it. His wife and family are from here. He gets to travel with the team and live the 5 star lifestyle. Every team needs a #7 who can slot in, so he gets to live that role and get paid.
Pretty sweet deal for a guy who probably makes a lot of teams in the NHL. In return he offers the team flexibility and is as low maintenance as it gets.
Not a lot to dislike about this routine and glad to see him back.
