Perhaps the NDP name has more cache than expected?

I assume the voters who say they won't vote for the NDP because of their name and tie to the Federal party (1) would never vote for NDP; and (2) are dimwits
I don't think the provincial NDP won because of a deep attraction of Albertans to the NDP brand, they won because the cons kept stabbing themselves in the eyeball and they were the only party that appeared to have an adult leadership choice. If there was an NDP groundswell you'd see them making progress at the Federal level as well.

As someone who would like Alberta provincial politics to be competitive to keep leaders honest (or at least less egregiously dishonest) I think its too bad they don't change the name.

As for your set of reasons. I agree the name of the party is a stupid reason to vote/not vote for someone. But changing the name to pander to dimwitted voters is absolutely the right choice.

If you exclude dimwits from voting for you it will be very difficult to get elected, because if dimwits were a party they'd have a plurality at minimum.
