I'm just not sure what coffee shops you've been to where that happens. Before turning 18, my friends and I did coffee shops as our thing to do. These kids can't go to bars and clubs, but everyone likes hanging out in vibrant and/or chill public places, so coffee shops are a great go-to for this age.
I think you don't like this concept based on your ignorant and made-up scenario. You couldn't have made a better strawman if you had a 1/4 section of land.

Oh totally, I love that as well. I just like to see them do and experience a range of things. Lately I've felt like we've "done" our house enough and I thought they might have a good time with a change of scenery. They're also my ticket to discovering new and good music, so I want to send them out to cool places to find some stuff for me.
