Also, officers in the Canadian Forces must swear a similar oath to Her Majesty upon receiving their commission. Not an oath to defend the Canadian people and our national interests, not an oath to protect our freedoms and democratic principles, but an oath to a foreign monarch. I thought it was total BS when I took that oath, but I bit my tongue and decided to choose my battles. I still think it's total BS now, more than 25 years later.
