Go with Canon then.
IMO if you want a decent one that will be versatile, save up some extra $$ if you can, and spend it on a slightly better model.

I am a big fan of the Panasonic Lumix lines - lots of zoom for your outdoor picture needs, built-in Image Stabalizers, and great cameras over-all.

Stay away from Kodak.
