Bill Zito has stated that Tkachuk is a generational player so that shows where he values Chucky. As a GM you can only afford so many big money deals and Zito bet on Tkachuk at 24 being someone worth investing 8 years and $76M for the same term and Barkov and eventually Ekblad will get his next extension.
The trade is great for Calgary because they want to win now so getting 2 win now players was a great return. The flames have committed huge money for one players age 30-38 years and likely will do something similar for a players 29-36/37 years which Florida wasn’t sure they wanted to do.
Great trade for 2 clubs looking to win now and shape the cores of their respective team moving forward. The deal makes sense for both sides in my opinion
