I have never seen a team curl as well as the Howard team did this week. They were beyond stellar. They were classy, a treat to watch and absolutely amazing shotmakers. I didn't really cheer for them at the Brier this year (Brad Gushue came from the same tiny Newfoundland outport as my Mom did...when she was young she dated his Dad) but they proved that they are, without a doubt, the best team in the world right now.
The Worlds aren't necessarily the best competition but curling isn't just a Canadian game. The Canadian men have only won 1 gold medal (Brad Gushue) at the Olympics in curling and the Canadian women also have only won gold once at the Olympics (Sandra Schmirler). It is not easy to win a gold medal at the worlds...last year we didn't win gold in either the mens or womens at the worlds.
