I think Tkachuk was raised to believe he should be captain, which isn't a good thing. He clearly tried to paint himself as captain material, but a captain should be obvious to the other players on the team, to management, and to anyone who spends time around the team. If you have to demand it as part of a contract, you're not captain material.
