That's probably a pretty common prospective even among pros. I think you get more research value/$ with probes and telescopes. But in terms of operational efficiency and technology development that can feed back into the general economy, we are at a phase where human exploration would do way more, way faster.

In the long run you probably need to maintain a good balance.

When you look at the advancements in material sciences, electronics circuitry, communications tech... I think sending humans to space safely drove all of that way faster than just shooting a robot up there could have, but the investment was incredibly high in comparison.
