What are the odds that Republicans are slow playing this Trump thing right now? They must certainly recognize that Trump is unelectable - which is all they really care about - and that he is likely headed to an indictment, so they could be using this as a distraction to keep the spotlight off of DeSantis and prevent a long-term vetting of that nutbar. Keeping up appearances of support, while providing none, would keep his base on their side and not split the party and then keep the media away from DeSantis. It is important to keep the media spotlight off DeSantis for as long as possible or they could leave themselves with no significant candidates come 2024. Conversely, it is important for the American people to see what the Florida Governor is all about as soon as possible so they can quickly cast him to the ash pile of GOP candidates. DeSantis is much more dangerous than Trump because he has a functioning brain and knows how to implement policy. The Republicans really need to keep DeSantis tucked away at the periphery of the fray and keep the focus on Trump's legal woes.
