You're misunderstanding. I'm not saying he's going to get better. I'm saying the upside of the deal is that he could, conceivably, play like a 4-5 million dollar player this season for them. He's old, but he's not cooked, and he could provide a lot of value in light of the fit with the roster. He could also play like a 1.5 million dollar player, obviously, but in that case he's appropriately paid and there's no problem. That's what I mean by zero risk and all upside.

Yeah suffice to say at 1.5M for 1 year almost anyone except an absolute train wreck is worth the contract. There is almost zero risk in that contract from the teams perspective.
