I want to see farm boys playing plenty of minutes in meaningful situations, not 8 minutes a night on the 4th line with no special teams.
And I certainly don't want to see the team depleting its farm depth just to ice an opening-day roster, when injuries are certain to happen as the season wears on. Better to sign replacement-level players for the bottom of the NHL roster than sub-replacement players for the bottom of the AHL roster. The latter signings will be no help at all in a crunch.
If a prospect kicks down the doors in training camp, as Kylington did last year, then great, demote or waive a vet. Otherwise, let them work for a promotion during the year.
