Yes it does. It's more of a risk to sign him to the initial contract if they feel like they could never move him at the end - they're either stuck with an early retirement penalty, or they keep him on the team and it hurts them on-ice, or they have to give up more to move him to another team.
I get that it's Edmonton, and they might do it all over again because: derp.
But if the cap recapture fees transferred with the player, there's not another team in the league that makes that trade with Chicago and Chicago is still hooped.
