McDavid is just played up for the media by players because the players know it's what they want to hear. So they don't have to put any effort in by just agreeing and going along with the hype

But their real thoughts behind the scenes are obviously very different. There is a consensus that other players are more complete.

Which is absolutely true. McDavid bleeds goals against when he's on the ice, and often huge back breaking ones. (cause he lost his man, or quit on the play/stopped skating).
