It’s a good healthy debate in terms of dealing from a position of strength to upgrade the top 6 right side but at the end of the day some of the valuing of Hanifin in the trade proposals are truly underrating the player, a 25 YO puck moving D with 500 games under his belt already is a rarity and a high end asset at his current caphit.
I look at Toronto and they currently sit 1.5 mill over the cap with 22/23 roster spots filled, the remaining roster spot is the outstanding RFA contract for Sandin. Something around Hanifin for Nylander could get me excited and willing to let Hanifin go but I feel Toronto would have to add to get it done.
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Nylander
Mangiapane - Kadri - Toffoli
Pelletier - Backlund - Coleman
Lucic - Rooney - Lewis
Ruzicka
Weegar - Tanev
Kylington - Andersson
Valimaki - Zadorov
Mackey
Markstrom
Vladar
You can see the impact to the top 4 though without a doubt and that’s something I think Sutter will really value so at the end of the day I don’t think the Flames are going to be trading a guy like Hanafin. Most likely we’ll see Valimaki flipped to help bring in a UFA like Kessel if the Flames are wanting to bolster the forwards at the expense of a D.
Can’t wait until October and the finishes touches on the roster, it’s going to be tons of fun!
