All GMs make mistakes ... all of them. In fact I would imagine the really good ones get it right about 60% of the time. You hope that you get more of the impactful ones correct and push the team forward.
Treliving has had a good summer for sure, but who knows where it goes. Hockey is a chemistry sport above all others, and the team could be cup champs or just not be a fit, we really have no idea.
I would have been happy with a tear down after losing two key players, but am shocked to see we actually get a core change that seems to have made the team better which is shocking.
They are older, and they will have some contract headache in 5 years, but for now I see the plan and I'm glad they're out of that mushy middle.
Treliving has always had my support because he seems intelligent, works his ass off, and to me anyway, puts a respectful and intelligent face on the franchise. I don't expect him to be a wizard with every move or to be perfect, but I know he's going to do what he can to improve the team and with that I've always felt the team is in good hands.
He seems to be getting better too, so I'm glad the ownership saw the evolution and didn't cash out when their investment turned the corner.
Will be interesting to see where the next few years go. Do they need a new voice/face at some point? Or does he become the next Poile?
