Treliving was fully responsible for all the criticism directed his way. He looked to have made the classic Calgary Flame mistake of sitting on player for too long, then having another force the hand of the hockey team. For fans that have been around this team for more than couple handful of years, this was deja vu all over again. But Treliving has surprising and quickly retooled a team that was looking to have taken on so much water so fast that it was certain to sink. The Tkachuk trade is looking like a homerun if/when Weegar signs. The move of Monahan was not great, but when you add in the addition of Kadri it becomes another strong move. He essentially added a better second line center for a broken second line center and conditional first, which should hopefully be a later first. Losing 1st round picks is hard, but with the makeup of the team and the conditions, it may not be a hard pill to swallow. The important thing now is not to burn off any more draft capital if at all possible. We need the influx of youth to support these players as they age out.
I'm not saying Treliving is a wizard, because we still have a very obvious glaring hole in the lineup, but he's definitely headlining in the big room for an off the strip casino in Vegas. Some very impressive moves that should keep the team competitive for the next three to five years. Use that depth on defense to get another top six winger to fill out the lineup and Treliving will have ascended to the heights of being a wizard.
