Some people might try arguing we're ahead with Weegar, but I'd argue pre-implosion, everyone would have taken the continuity that is Johnny/Tkachuk over Hub/Weeg/Kadri 99 times out of 100.
I'd say Treliving has done enough to save his own job after he almost cost himself his job. GM of the year doesn't lose his top 2 players

No no no to the bolded. People wanted to keep the continuity because it seemed like the best available option...many posters felt it was largely futile with very low odds of really leading to sustained success.
I have mixed feelings on the Monny+1st part of it, but the entirety of this off-season is absolutely a win:
IN: Huby, Kadri, prospect, Weegar
OUT: Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Monahan, Gudbranson
Obviously the Kadri contract isn't ideal, but I feel a lot better about Huby+Kadri at 17.5M than JG/MT at 20. I think there are valid arguments for either pair, but the thing that really pushes Huby over the top is this year at 5.9M - while Markstrom/Tanev/Backlund are still [hopefully] in their primes.
Prospect+Weegar is a no brainer over SM/EG, especially considering EG is more expensive than Weegar this year. It'll suck if Monahan fetches a return at TDL (though I'll be happy for him) and/or the pick blows up in our face, but you gotta push your chips in sooner or later.
