Every draft is hyped because it gets a ton of media attention and players get over analyzed and what not.
However, within that, there is usually a lot of good information that can give you a real sense of the quality of the draft.
And that has a few different dimensions to it. When I think about the quality of the draft I look at
- What is the quality of the top end. This year's draft had a relatively poor quality at the very top
- What are the various ledges, and where are there drop downs. How deep into the draft do you have potential top line players
- What is the depth through the rest. Typically this is harder to tell and more similar year to year. Once you get into the 2nd and beyond, it's much harder to ditinguish
So when I look at 2023 I evaluate it to be a strong draft because
- It has a really good first overall (Bedard). At the Mackinnon level.
- At least 2 additional players that I think have franchise potential
- A good batch of additional players in the first that have top line potential, particularly within forwards
- Good depth of quality prospects into the mid to late part of the first
A lot can change in the next year, but that's the early read. It's a good draft across multiple dimensions.

Got yah, then it would make sense to dump the Florida 1st. I always ignore pre-draft hype for the most part.
