Watching Coronato in the WJC over the last week, I’ve noticed that he plays a very mature game… you can see his skills and he makes big plays (loved his assist tonight) but he rarely tries to do too much. He rarely makes a mistake or a bad decision with the puck. Seems focused on establishing a cycle in the offensive zone and he wins puck battles consistently.
It’s great to see because this tournament sometimes makes lots of guys try to make the highlight reel rather than make the smart play. I’ve seen it from Cooley a few times… obviously he’s a great player but he’s definitely tried to dangle through multiple guys rather than make the smart cycle play… and it’s led to the cycle breaking down and the puck going back the other way.
