It's ok for hockey fans to be disappointed that a player left. If the wife had something to do with that, I think it's fine to state a theory or wonder who made the final call.
It's not cool to make her a villain though, as any intelligent happily married man is going to involve his wife in the decision making process.
But wondering or pondering if his wife played a role because of the confusion of how things went down doesn't make a hockey fan a terrible person. I think we need to pump the breaks a bit.

Sure, but the posts people are jumping on aren't saying "I wonder if his wife influenced his decision..." The posts getting the negative reaction are the ones stating that his wife made the decision for him and Johnny is whipped.
It smacks a little of the vitriol from when Pronger left Edmonton. Not a good look.
Up until he signed with Columbus, I didn't even know he was married and I certainly didn't know his wife's name. It's great to be a fan of the team but there's a fine line between enjoying the entertainment of a game and hoping the team does well to insulting players and their families when things don't go your way. Reminding people that they're crossing the line seems okay to me.
