Lucic was a great career Renaissance story. I liked having the "toughest player in the league" on our team, and I liked it when guys like Bieksa said that Calgary was the "toughest team in the league" last year.
Where did that get us? Eliminated by the Oilers in 5 games. That's where. I had thought that Lucic would be like Owen Nolan, or Recchi in Carolina. Elevate his game in the playoffs and be that grizzled vet that provides invaluable tangibles. But while his intangibles are valuable he still was part of an underwhelming bottom 6 forwards, that couldn't keep up with the speed of the playoffs. Ritchie was more effective imo.
His cap hit is just too high for a team thats trying to go all in. If you can find a taker for him, so that you can improve the team, you do it every day of the week.
But if you don't need the cap space, then sure keep him around.
