Given NATO members have global interests, I think it would be a bit strange to purposely confine themselves to the North Atlantic area. The world is more globalized than 1945 - I think its ok that NATO's interest grows beyond Europe (as it has in the past 2 decades or so). Silly to confine the world's most powerful military alliance to a small slice of the earth and leave the rest to whomever (Russia/China). I'm not looking to conquer the world - but the world is out there.
