I was there in May - loved staying in Soho. A bit removed from the crazy of Times Square, but easy to walk or take the subway.
I took the Subway by myself from Brooklyn back to Soho at 3:00am one night and never really felt unsafe - though it was a little eerie.
If you can find a sweet deal, I really loved Soho.
