I expect Tkachuk to do well in Florida. He was absolutely the beneficiary of being on a line with one of the very best playmakers in the league last season and he won't have that next season, but he's still pretty young and at the early end of prime years with some elite skills. I've no doubt there will be some highlight reel plays we'll see in the coming season that make us wish we could have kept him, and he'll be a really important contributor to a very good team in Florida. I'm also glad the Flames won't play against him frequently. That said, the return Treliving got for him is excellent and I am happy with the trade. I never really liked Tkachuk much as a fan and never really wanted to cheer for him. I'm kind of relieved to know he will never wear the C for the Flames and be the face of the franchise. I would have hated that.

Florida should still do well as a team. I have nothing against them and kind of like the way they have built their team up. They've been a likable franchise since back in the days of Vanbiesbrouk and the rats on the ice in their miracle run to the finals. I'm happy to see them doing well, so I hope Tkachuk does well for them and this is a true win-win hockey trade.
