So you have 8 NHL contract defensemen that won't clear waivers.
I am assuming that Valimaki and Mackey won't clear because they are young, cheap, and have potential and there are 3-5 teams looking to bottom out and accumulate young talent.
Every time a defensemans name comes up about being traded there is outcry, but at some point in time at least one of those eight has to be moved or they will be lost for nothing.
So is it better to move out a young unproven defenseman like Valimaki for a Zadina, Glass, Valardi?
Or better to move out a solid top 4 defenseman like Hanifin for a Keller, Beauvillier, Faksa, Bratt?
The Flames need another top six skilled scoring player unless you think that Pelltier and/or Ruzicka on the third line are going to make up for the lost offense ove Tkachuk.
