It just blew me away when Ron McLean used to wax poetic about how the salary cap has killed dynasties and wants it gone. HE's speaking as an Oilers fan of the 80's when the Oilers of the late 90's/early 2000's were what happens without a salary cap, modern day.
I'm glad that the salary cap has been introduced. It not only holds teams accountable (no pun intended) to manage their players' contracts, but it ensures that every team with even decent management can remain competitive.

I don't want to see teams like the Islanders or Oilers win multiple consecutive Stanley Cups. While it might be fun to be a fan of one of those teams, it's boring for most NHL fans, and it prevents the NHL from ever becoming popular in other markets. It's overall bad for the sport. Do we really want to see teams like the Nordiques and Jets having to be moved to larger U.S. markets again, because they don't have the ownership willing to overpay for all of their players, an arena, coaching staff, etc.?

Personally, I would find it more impressive as a neutral NHL fan that teams like the Penguins and Lightning have been able to stay competitive multiple seasons in a row, and win consecutive Stanley Cups, while being in the salary cap era.

There's a reason why I don't like watching the MLB or NBA. Nobody wants to see the Yankees and Warriors win every year. It's boring.
