I’m thrilled we officially locked in Huby for a long time! We just won our division and were considered a contender going into playoffs. Now despite the doomsday feelings of a couple weeks ago, the roster is looking easily as strong as when the season ended.
Any perceived extra salary or term are pretty much standard for signing any upper echelon player over 25 to a long-term deal. At least we have a player who is a good bet to be half-decent value on the back half of the contract, as well as a really good chance at the cap growing A LOT by then too.
It’s already been mentioned in here that rebuilds aren’t assured to be a success, but it should also be said more often that they aren’t necessary for success. Washington and St. Louis never did a rebuild to win their cups. The Pens hadn’t sucked and drafted high for a decade when they last won back-to-backs. And of course we all know how well the Oilers perpetual rebuilds have set them up for sucess…
