I'd have much preferred they beat the price Seattle gave for Bjorkstrand, even - obviously not the same tier of player but the cap space is just so much more valuable right now than anything else, and of all the high-earning player types, scoring wingers are the least valuable assets based on the transactions we've seen this summer. Even on that front, if you were going to allocate cap space to a scoring winger, the better bet would be to pay Mangiapane whatever it took to lock him up for 8 years than do this.
I wouldn't have given him 10 million per and I wouldn't have given a term over 6 years. Even 6x9.5 is a bit risky from where I sit. This deal is absurd.
Hope I'm wrong... and hope Weegar comes in for a more reasonable figure.

If we offer 6 x 9.5m then Huberdeau’s agent would laugh at us, say that we insulted his client, and then sign a 75m/7 = 10.714m in free agency the following season.
Gotta pay to play. We just lost Gaudreau and Tkachuk. And, we found a player who is just as good if not better than Johnny that was willing to sign the same exact deal we offered Johnny to remain here.
