well, those are things are important, but if they were the be-all and end-all, no UFA could ever sign somewhere new. And at the same time, Huberdeau is coming off a 115 point season ... the time to cash in is now. Why risk a subpar season or injury if you can sign a fat 8 year deal now after a career year? We'll see. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if Huberdeau re-signed long-term way before the start of the season.
