Flames have 23 players signed to one-way contracts with Ruzicka left to sign. The cap hit of those 23 players is exactly 81.5M leaving just a million dollars in cap space. I think the Flames roster is mostly set and I wouldn't be holding my breath for another big move.
Now 10 of them are defenseman. So likely some defenders will be making NHL money in the AHL but I doubt the Flames signed both Meloche and Gilbert during free agent frenzy with the expectation that both would play in the AHL fulltime. Of course Weegar was not in the plan at the time of those signings but I think Valamaki was still on the outside looking in even before that acquisition.
But sign Ruzicka as the "12th forward" and move Valamaki for an equivalent "13th" forward making between 1M-2.5M leaving a spot open for a forward with a two-way contract to "force" their way on the team.
Could even go into the season with 13-8-2 instead of 14-7-2 with one of Mackey/Meloche/Gilbert in the AHL and first callup during injuries.
Some uncertainty around Monahan and maybe even Dube but assuming they're on the roster, I think the team is close to what you see is what you get.
Lucic at 0.875M could be a moveable player depending on his NTC teams if a player like Stastny did find themselves wanting to sign in Calgary but I'm not sure there's going to be many other players available that would be worth shaking up the team for.
