I don't mind the term, but the AAV feels about a half-million too high. Mangiapane certainly makes the most of his opportunities, but $5.8M puts him in the same realm as:
Buchnevich @ $5.8M (0.7ppg in the three seasons prior to signing)
Schwartz @ $5.5M (four 50+ point seasons prior to signing)
Burakovsky $5.5M (0.8ppg in the three seasons prior to signing)
Bjorkstrand @ 5.4M (good underlying numbers on a so-so team)
Adrian Kempe @ $5.5M (only had one good season prior to signing)
Atkinson @ $5.875M (five 20+ goal seasons prior to signing)
Karlsson @ $5.9M (signed fresh off his 43g season)
All of these guys signed at the same age that Mangiapane did, give or take a year. All of these players except Bjorkstrand and Kempe were more proven than Mangiapane at the time of signing and are arguably better players.
Hopefully Mangiapane has another gear and does what Buchnevich just did in the first year of his new contract.

Neither were exactly offensive dynamos.

Despite spending so much ES time with those two, Mangiapane also gets more more favorable offensive zone starts (generally speaking) and more PP ATOI than Coleman and Backlund combined.
